So You Want to Be a Council Person?

This being an odd-numbered year, there are seats coming up for re-election on the San Carlos City Council (and on the San Carlos School Board and Sequoia Union High School Board, too).

If you’ve ever thought about serving the community on the Council I would be happy to meet with you and answer your questions, both about the service itself, and what’s involved in running for the office. That’s something Seth Rosenblatt started when I was on the San Carlos School Board, and I think it’s a great idea.

In the interest of full disclosure you should know that I hold one of the seats that are up for election this year, and I will be seeking re-election. The other seat is held by Ron Collins, who also, so far as I know, plans to run again.

But, regardless, I’m still happy to talk to anyone about the job. It’s important the community has a choice in selecting who makes decisions on its behalf, and in my experience lack of familiarity with the actual duties of an elected official tends to cause good potential candidates to shy away from running.

So if you’ve always wanted to know about running for, and serving on, the Council, just drop me a line at mark@arcabama.com.
